The Vermont Public Service Board has approved the installation of Ranger Solar's 20-MW Coolidge solar project on the Ludlow-Cavendish town line.
Construction on the 88.5-acre project is expected to begin in 2018 and would contain 82,000 solar panels, The Associated Press reported March 30.
Though power from the project is being sold to Connecticut utilities, the solar project will still have the potential to lower Vermont ratepayer costs, according to regulators.
Green Mountain Power will not purchase power from the Coolidge project, since it is outside of the utility's service area, a Green Mountain Power spokeswoman reportedly said.
