BHE Canada to start construction of 117.6-MW wind farm in 2020

BHE Canada LLC expects to begin construction of the 117.6-MW Rattlesnake Ridge wind project in Medicine Hat, Alberta, in 2020.

The Berkshire Hathaway Energy subsidiary privately financed the C$200 million project through a combination of equity and debt. Rattlesnake Ridge is under development by Renewable Energy Systems Ltd., which will also provide construction and asset management services.

Rattlesnake Ridge is expected to begin generating energy for Alberta's grid in December 2021. It will sell the majority of its output to an unnamed Canadian corporate partner under a long-term contract.

Aside from Rattlesnake Ridge, BHE Canada and Renewable Energy Systems have permitted the 398.5-MW Forty Mile Wind Project in southeastern Alberta. They are now looking for partners in long-term power purchase agreements.
