Indiana Michigan Power to invest $92M to upgrade transmission lines

Indiana Michigan Power Co. intends to invest approximately $92 million to upgrade its electric transmission system in Michigan.

The Granger-Benton Harbor transmission line rebuild project will take place in four phases and includes the construction of about 46 miles of a 138-kV transmission line, with steel monopoles replacing lattice structures, according to a May 18 release.

The American Electric Power Co. Inc. subsidiary expects to begin construction in the Granger, Ind., to Niles, Mich., areas in spring 2019 to early 2020, construction in the St. Joseph, Mich., area from summer 2019 to early 2020, construction in the Benton Harbor to Niles, Mich., area from early 2020 to summer 2021 and construction in the Benton Harbor area from summer 2020 to fall 2021.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2022.
