SSE PLC achieved commercial operation at the 70-MW Ferrybridge Multifuel 2 energy-from-waste facility in West Yorkshire, U.K., the company announced Dec. 20.
The £325 million project is capable of processing 675,000 tonnes of waste-derived fuels and generating sufficient electricity for about 180,000 residential homes yearly.
It was developed by Multifuel Energy Ltd., a joint venture between SSE and Wheelabrator Technologies (UK) Ltd.
Hitachi Zosen Inova AG designed and built Ferrybridge Multifuel 2 and Ferrybridge Multifuel 1, which achieved commercial operation in July 2015.
