South Korean hypermarket chain E-Mart Inc. is testing a robot that provides automated concierge service, Yonhap News Agency reported May 9.
The robot concierge, called Pepper, will be stationed at an E-Mart store in Seoul for about three weeks, the report added, citing the company.
Japan's SoftBank Robotics Group Corp. developed Pepper, a 1.2-meter-tall robot that answers frequently asked questions, introduces sale items and gives product information.
In April, the Shinsegae International Co. Ltd.-owned retailer also started a test run of its autonomous shopping cart.
