The VC Beat: Gelesis garners $63.4M; Wildlife Studios pulls in $60M

* Gelesis, which develops a novel hydrogel platform technology for treating obesity and other chronic gastrointestinal tract diseases, secured $63.4 million in its latest funding round led by Vitruvian Partners. Gelesis obtained $30.0 million in growth capital in March 2018. The biotechnology company also secured $21.2 million in new, nondilutive grant funding and loans to advance its commercialization efforts.

* A $60 million series A financing round for mobile gaming technology company Wildlife Studios, formally known as AVL Aplicativos Ltda., was led by Benchmark. Other round participants include Bessemer Venture Partners, or Deer Management Co. LLC; Red Ventures co-founder and CEO Ric Elias; Ribbit Capital partner Micky Malka; Iconiq Capital partner Divesh Makan; as well as Javier Olivan and Hugo Barra, vice president of growth and former vice president of virtual reality at Facebook, respectively.

* GSR Ventures and Square Peg led an $18.5 million series A round for Singapore-based electronic scooter startup Neuron Mobility, with participation from current investors SeedPlus and SEEDS Capital, TechCrunch reported. Neuron Mobility collected about $3.7 million in seed financing in December 2018.
