'Westworld' gets season 2 premiere date; Netflix, Fusion ink production deal

The Program Guide highlights recent programming announcements from various networks and online video platforms in the U.S.

On TV

* Time Warner Inc.'s HBO (US) will premiere the second season of western-themed sci-fi series "Westworld" on April 22. The new season will feature 10 episodes, according to a Feb. 5 news release.

* HBO will air drama series "Here and Now" on Feb. 11. The 10-episode series follows a contemporary multi-racial family that see its bonds tested after one of them starts seeing things that others cannot, according to a Feb. 5 news release.

* NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises' UNIVERSO (US) will premiere the third season of celeb-reality series "The Riveras" on March 11. The 14-episode series offers a glimpse into the lives of the children of the late Regional Mexican music legend Jenni Rivera, according to a Feb. 5 news release.

* DHX Media Ltd. will produce 26 more episodes of comedy series "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" in partnership with Sony Corp.'s Sony Pictures Animation, Inc. Turner Broadcasting System Inc. will premiere the second season of the series on Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels across Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America, in 2018, the company said Feb. 1. Season one of the series premiered on Cartoon Network (US) and Boomerang (US) channels, as well as on Corus Entertainment Inc.'s YTV (US) in Canada in 2017.

* 21st Century Fox Inc.'s FOX News Channel (US) renewed interview series "OBJECTified" for a second season. The new season will premiere in the summer of 2018 and will be hosted by TMZ's Harvey Levin, according to a Feb. 1 news release.

* Sky plc's Sky Atlantic (UK) will broadcast "Trust," a 10-episode series starring Donald Sutherland and Hilary Swank. The series will be available exclusively on Sky Atlantic respectively across the U.K., Ireland, Italy, Germany and Austria this spring, according to a news release. The series revolves around the trials and triumphs of the Getty family in the U.S.

* PBS (US) premiered the ninth season of cooking show "Martha Bakes" on Feb. 3. The new season from Martha Stewart will explore cookie recipes from regions in Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand and other territories, according to a Jan. 31 news release.

* Comcast Corp.'s USA (US) Network renewed legal drama series "Suits" for an eighth season, according to a Jan. 30 post. Also, the network will premiere the back half of the seventh season of "Suits" on March 28.

* HBO bought all domestic television rights, including streaming on the HBO service, to "The Oslo Diaries." Set to be premiered later this year, the documentary is based on a series of meetings between a group of Israelis and Palestinians in Oslo that came to be known as The Oslo Accords, the network said Jan. 28.

* Univision Communications Inc.'s Univision Deportes (US) kicked off a week-long digital coverage of Super Bowl LII from Jan. 29 through Feb. 5. The digital coverage included interviews with former players, fans, personalities and a look at all the activities planned by the NFL, infographics, podcasts and other segments, the company said Jan. 26.

On OTT

* Verizon Communications Inc. green-lighted teen horror-comedy "Snatchers" for seasons two and three. The series from Stage 13 will go into production for season two in New Mexico and started principal photography on Feb. 5, the company said Feb. 5.

* Netflix Inc. entered into a production deal with Univision Communications Inc.'s Fusion Media Group, LLC for at least five series in English and Spanish, Variety reported Feb. 1. The deal includes "Tijuana," a Spanish-language drama series set to begin production in April. Univision (US) will broadcast the series in the U.S. before it streams on Netflix. The deal also includes two Spanish-language scripted series and two English-language docu-series.

* Netflix picked up rights to French-Canadian film "Les Affamés." The Canadian horror movie will stream on Netflix on March 2 in markets except Canada, Latin America and Eastern Europe. It will be available to Canadian Netflix members starting 2019, the company said Feb. 1.

* Hulu LLC pulled the plug on drama series "Shut Eye" after two seasons, according to a Jan. 31 tweet by series star Jeffrey Donovan. The series starred Donovan as Charlie Haverford who, along with his wife Linda, run a chain of fortune-telling parlors.

* Netflix placed a second-season order for its first original Italian crime thriller, "Suburra, the series." The series, based on the novel of the same name, is set in Rome and describes a fight over land in a seaside town of Ostia that spirals into a deadly battle between organized crime, corrupt politicians and the Vatican, the company said Jan. 30.
