Amazon.com Inc. will begin delivering packages via its autonomous device Amazon Scout in Irvine, Calif., the e-commerce giant said in an Aug. 6 blog post.
Having conducted tests in Seattle, the company will start deliveries with a small number of Amazon Scout robots during weekday daylight hours in the Southern California city.
Customers in the Irvine area can place orders as they normally do, and their packages will be delivered either by a carrier or Amazon Scout, the retailer said. The self-driving robots will be initially accompanied by an Amazon employee.
