Anglo American PLC halted iron ore output at its Minas Rio operation in Brazil's Minas Gerais state after a mineral duct ruptured, leaking a mixture of iron ore and water to a local watershed, Metal Bulletin and Reuters reported March 12.
The pipeline is used for transporting material from the mining site to an export terminal in Rio de Janeiro state. Production will remain halted until the company determines the cause of the incident.
The mining major has asked the local water company to stop water supply to the residents.
