Ranger Power finds offtaker for planned 99-MW solar project in Illinois

New York-based solar developer Ranger Power signed a 30-year contract to sell electricity from its planned 99-MW solar array in Perry County, Ill., to Wabash Valley Power Association Inc.

The Prairie State solar project will sell the associated renewable energy credits through the Illinois Power Agency's REC procurement process. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2019, with commercial operations starting in 2021.

The project is estimated to cost about $100 million. "This new project will help reduce peak demand, while the additional economic and environmental benefits will impact many more Illinois residents and businesses," said Ranger Power CEO Adam Cohen in a March 5 statement.

Wabash Valley Power supplies electricity to 23 not-for-profit electric distribution cooperatives throughout Illinois, Missouri and Indiana.
