China Distance Education Holdings Ltd. said its normalized net income for the fiscal second quarter ended March 31 amounted to 5 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 8 cents per share.
EPS climbed year over year from 3 cents.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $1.9 million, an increase of 98.8% from $960,630 in the year-earlier period.
The normalized profit margin increased to 7.9% from 4.3% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue climbed 8.1% on an annual basis to $24.1 million from $22.3 million, and total operating expenses fell 9.1% on an annual basis to $19.5 million from $21.5 million.
Reported net income rose 94.3% year over year to $2.5 million, or 7 cents per share, from $1.3 million, or 3 cents per share.
