Amazon.com Inc. held preliminary investment discussions with Indonesian ride-hailing company PT Go-Jek Indonesia , The Wall Street Journal reported Aug. 28, citing people familiar with the matter.
One of the sources reportedly said the companies talked about an arrangement wherein Amazon would "make a sizable investment" in the company. The move would enable the online giant to tap into GoJek's delivery network in Indonesia.
An Amazon spokeswoman told the Journal that the company does not comment on rumors and speculation. Meanwhile, a GoJek spokesman reportedly did not immediately respond to a comment request.
The discussions do not guarantee that a deal will take place, the report added.
According to a Bloomberg News report, sources said Amazon is one of the companies that have been negotiating with GoJek to join its ongoing funding round.
The Indonesian startup's backers currently include Alphabet Inc., JD.com Inc. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp.
