Fluent Beverage Co., a joint venture between Belgian brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev SA and Canadian cannabis company Tilray Inc., plans to market nonalcohol cannabidiol-infused drinks in Canada, according to an Oct. 10 release.
The potential launch is expected in December, subject to regulatory timelines implemented by Health Canada and provincial regulators. The announcement comes nearly a year after Canada legalized the recreational use of cannabis across the country.
AB InBev and Tilray formed the joint venture in December 2018, committing up to $50 million each to research nonalcoholic beverages with two cannabinoids: tetrahydrocannabinol and CBD. At the time, the companies said the venture will be limited to Canada.
Most recently, Fluent said it intends to market the products to adult consumers. It added that it will continue its research on nonalcoholic drinks containing THC.
