Germany's manufacturing sector registered an increase in new orders for December 2017 on a monthly basis after a decline in the prior month, while turnover in the sector slipped, provisional data from the Federal Statistical Office showed.
Seasonally and working-day adjusted new orders jumped 3.8% month over month in December 2017, while the November 2017 decline was revised to 0.1% from 0.4%.
Domestic and foreign orders rose in December, booking monthly gains of 0.7% and 5.9%, respectively. New orders from the euro area were up 11.2% month over month.
Manufacturers of intermediate and capital goods saw an increase in new orders by 2.4% and 5.7%, respectively, while new orders for consumer goods fell 5.1%.
Meanwhile, price-adjusted manufacturing turnover in Germany slipped 0.3% in December compared to the previous month, after seasonal and working day adjustments. This decline came after a 4.6% monthly increase in November, which was in line with the provisional estimate.
