Argentina's San Juan province has ordered Barrick Gold Corp. to halt some operations at its Veladero gold mine, after a pipe carrying gold and silver solution ruptured on the night of March 28, Reuters reported March 30, citing state-run news agency Telam.
The newswire noted that it could not confirm the report of the suspension, while a Barrick spokesman said the company is still confirming the meaning of the order.
Barrick said earlier that the incident was quickly addressed and does not pose any threat to the environment.
