A subsidiary of NextEra Energy Transmission LLC is planning to acquire a 138-kV transmission line from Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative Inc.
Under the proposed deal, NextEra Energy Transmission Southwest LLC will purchase a 30-mile segment called the Jacksonville-Overton Line in Cherokee, Rusk and Smith counties in Texas. The purchase price will be based on the net book value of the transmission line at closing of the transaction plus a 25% acquisition adjustment, according to a June 5 application filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Rayburn, a nonprofit generation and transmission electric cooperative, owns 367 miles of transmission lines, of which 160 miles are located within the Southwest Power Pool and the remaining 207 circuit miles are located in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. The cooperative plans to integrate into ERCOT the entirety of its load and 130 miles of its transmission assets now within SPP. About 15% of the cooperative's load is currently in SPP.
At deal close NextEra Energy Transmission Southwest will transfer functional control over the line to SPP.
