British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Bhd. said its first-quarter normalized net income came to 71 Malaysian sen per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 81 sen per share.
EPS increased 7.8% year over year from 66 sen.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was 202.9 million ringgits, a gain of 7.8% from 188.2 million ringgits in the year-earlier period.
The normalized profit margin fell to 15.9% from 16.3% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue climbed 10.4% year over year to 1.27 billion ringgits from 1.15 billion ringgits, and total operating expenses grew 11.4% year over year to 946.6 million ringgits from 849.9 million ringgits.
Reported net income grew 8.0% year over year to 243.4 million ringgits, or 85 sen per share, from 225.4 million ringgits, or 79 sen per share.
As of April 28, US$1 was equivalent to 3.54 ringgits.
