Panasonic to boost semiconductor material business overseas

Panasonic Corp. said Dec. 13 that it will increase the production and development of its Megtron GX, a substrate material used in semiconductor modules for electronic gadgets, in China and Taiwan.

The Osaka, Japan-based consumer electronics maker said the move will help the company meet rising demand for this material, particularly in eastern China.

In April 2019, the company will begin producing and selling substrate materials at its existing Panasonic Industrial Devices Materials (Suzhou) Co. Ltd. plant in China.

It will also establish Taiwan Semiconductor Materials Research and Development Center in the same month as part of Panasonic Industrial Devices Materials Taiwan Co. Ltd., its production site for circuit board materials including substrate materials. Panasonic said the new facility will speed up product development and help reduce customers' development lead time.
