Unum Group files for $300M debt offering

Unum Group has filed a registration statement related to the sale of $300 million aggregate principal amount of 6.250% junior subordinated notes due June 15, 2058.

The company may issue up to an additional $45 million of notes to cover overallotments. The offering is expected to generate proceeds, before expenses, of about $290.7 million.

The trade date for the notes is May 21, and the settlement date is May 29. Interest on the notes is payable March 15, June 15, Sept. 15 and Dec. 15 of each year, starting Sept. 15.

Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith Inc., Morgan Stanley & Co. LLC, UBS Securities LLC, Wells Fargo Securities LLC and J.P. Morgan Securities LLC are the joint book-running managers.
