CPS Energy has started building a solar and battery storage project in San Antonio.
The project, on the property of nonprofit engineering and science organization Southwest Research Institute, will feature a 5-MW solar farm with racks filled with 10 MW of batteries, according to an Oct. 11 news release. It is expected to go online in April 2019.
CPS Energy partnered with the Southwest Research Institute for the $16.3 million project. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality subsidized the project with a $3 million grant.
RES Group subsidiary Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. was selected to construct the project.
