Report: Exxon takes Beaumont refinery offline due to flooding

Flooding from Tropical Storm Imelda prompted Exxon Mobil Corp. to shut down its Beaumont refinery in Texas, Reuters reported Sept. 19, citing sources familiar with plant operations.

In addition, the Beaumont chemical plant "has completed a safe and systematic shutdown of its units," Exxon spokesperson Jeremy Eikenberry said in a Sept. 19 email to S&P Global Market Intelligence. Eikenberry said the company is conducting a preliminary assessment of the Beaumont refinery and chemical complex to determine the storm's impact.

The refinery processes 366,000 barrels of crude oil per day and produces 2.8 billion gallons of gasoline annually, according to Exxon.
