Texas oil, gas permits in September fall from previous month, YOY

The Railroad Commission of Texas issued 796 original drilling permits in September, dropping from 960 permits released in August, while also slipping from 974 permits issued in September 2018.

For September, 733 permits were to drill new oil or gas wells, 52 were for wellbore recompletions and 11 were to reenter plugged wellbores. The permits included 474 for oil or gas drilling, 197 for oil-only drilling and 56 for gas-only drilling.

The commission also processed 583 oil, 137 gas and 25 injection well completions in September. For the same period a year ago, the commission reported processing 553 oil, 129 gas and 60 injection well completions.

Year-to-date well completions total 7,074, decreasing from 8,041 well completions in the same period a year ago.

The Midland area kept the top spot for oil and gas well completions in September with 456 and 53, respectively.

The North Texas area also retained the second spot for oil well completions with 30, while the San Antonio area climbed to second with 22 gas well completions.
