Maxim Power buys combustion turbine gas generator for Milner plant

Milner Power Inc. purchased a new General Electric combustion turbine gas generator for C$20.3 million that will be installed at the HR Milner power plant in Alberta.

The equipment was previously delivered new to the seller in 2012 and never installed. The purchase price will be funded from cash on hand, the Maxim Power Corp. subsidiary said in a Sept. 5 news brief. The approximately C$80 million project will be completed late in 2019.

Milner Power anticipates that generation capacity at the site from the combustion turbine will average 208 MW in simple cycle. The company expects to phase out the coal-fired HR Milner plant during the latter part of the installation.

The Alberta Environment and Parks department approved the installation of the gas turbine in 2015.
