Xcel Energy selects Mortenson to build 500-MW wind project in Colorado

Xcel Energy Inc. has hired Mortenson to build the 500-MW Cheyenne Ridge wind project in Cheyenne and Kit Carson counties, Colo.

Mortenson's scope of work includes access roads, foundations, collection, substation, operations and maintenance building, turbine erection and tower wiring, according to a Sept. 6 news release.

The wind project, featuring Vestas Wind Systems A/S turbines, is scheduled for completion in December 2020.

Cheyenne Ridge is part of Xcel Energy's efforts to achieve its zero-carbon strategy. It also supports Colorado's goal to reach 100% renewable electricity by 2040.
