NextEra, WPPI Energy to construct 100-MW solar project in Wisconsin

NextEra Energy Resources LLC and WPPI Energy have unveiled plans to erect the 100-MW Point Beach solar energy center in Manitowoc County, Wis.

Touted as the largest solar facility in the state, the project will be built adjacent to NextEra Energy Inc.'s Point Beach nuclear power plant, according to a Jan. 30 company release. NextEra intends to place the solar farm in service by 2021.

"We are pleased to partner with WPPI Energy to bring the largest universal solar energy center to Wisconsin," said Mike O'Sullivan, senior vice president of development for NextEra Energy Resources.

The planned facility's output is contracted to WPPI Energy's member municipal utilities across Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and Iowa under a 20-year power contract.
