Air China to halt Beijing-Hawaii route

Air China Ltd. said it will stop operating flights on the Beijing-Hawaii route starting Aug. 27 due to "network layout, capacity arrangement and other reasons."

The suspension comes as the trade dispute between China and the U.S. has intensified.

China expressed "deep regret" over the U.S. decision to label China a currency manipulator and its central bank stepped in to contain the weakness in yuan, which depreciated below 7 per dollar for the first time in over a decade on Aug. 5.

"China has never used and will not use [the yuan] exchange rate as a tool to deal with the trade frictions," the central bank said.

The airline said passengers with tickets for travel dates after Aug. 27 will be refunded the amount in full. Air China's Shanghai-listed shares ended the session down nearly 3%, and its Hong Kong-listed shares fell 2.50%.
