FERC approves GenOn sale of 810-MW gas plant to Entergy Mississippi

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Sept. 19 signed off on GenOn Holdings LLC's sale of the 810-MW Choctaw combined-cycle facility in Choctaw County, Miss., to Entergy Mississippi LLC for $314 million.

The natural gas-fired plant is in the Tennessee Valley Authority balancing authority area on the border of the Entergy Mississippi and TVA transmission systems near French Camp, Miss.

As a condition of the transaction, GenOn affiliate GenOn Energy Wholesale will move the Choctaw plant out of the TVA balancing authority area and into the Midcontinent ISO balancing area, where the Entergy subsidiary's service territory and load obligations are located.

GenOn Holdings Inc., which is the managing member of GenOn Holdings LLC, succeeded to GenOn Energy as part of a bankruptcy reorganization plan of GenOn Energy and certain of its affiliated debtors. Entergy Mississippi is a subsidiary of Entergy Corp. (FERC docket EC19-63)
