Community Energy to build 80-MW solar facility in North Carolina

Community Energy Inc. filed an application with the North Carolina Utilities Commission, seeking a certificate of public convenience and necessity for the planned 80-MW Williamsburg Solar Plant in Rockingham County, N.C.

The solar facility will sell power to Duke Energy Corp. subsidiary Duke Energy Carolinas LLC. The project, estimated to cost $80 million, is expected to go online Sept. 30, 2020, according to the application.
