Semafo Inc. achieved commercial production at its Boungou gold mine in Burkina Faso, effective Sept. 1.
During the initial 30-day period, the mill processed more than 90,000 tonnes of ore at an average 2.4 g/t of gold, with a recovery rate of 83% mainly from lower grade ore.
Introduction of higher grade ore during process optimization yielded a recovery rate of over 93%, the company said Sept. 4.
The Boungou mine achieved first gold pour in late June and produced 12,000 ounces of gold in the pre-commercial period from June to the end of August.
In 2018, Boungou is expected to produce 60,000 to 70,000 ounces of gold in commercial production.
