Tando Resources Ltd. said June 12 that it expects to mobilize equipment for its first drill program at the SPD vanadium project in South Africa in the next few weeks, with drilling to start upon the formal grant of a mining right for the property.
The company signed a binding deal in March to gain control of the project, and a scoping study is anticipated in the fourth quarter.
Tando is planning 7,700 meters of drilling. A first phase of 1,650 meters will focus on updating existing historical resources, and a second phase of 5,550 meters is designed to delineate indicated resources for use in the scoping study.
Historical resources at SPD are estimated at 513.3 million tonnes at a whole rock grade of 0.78% vanadium pentoxide.
Another five drillholes totaling 500 meters are planned in order to undertake initial subsurface testing of magnetite pipes on the property.
Tando is targeting vanadium due to its use in energy storage, specifically vanadium redox flow batteries.
