IAMGOLD resumes partial operations at Rosebel gold mine in Suriname

IAMGOLD Corp. resumed partial operations at its Rosebel gold mine in Suriname following a suspension in early August due to a clash between police and illegal miners that left one miner dead.

Mining in the southern pits as well as development activities at the site's Saramacca deposit remain halted, while road construction at Saramacca resumed, according to an Aug. 26 release.

The company also said it is fully committed to recalling the 325 contractors recently dismissed as part of an effort to improve security at the Rosebel site.

The suspension as well as lower grades at Rosebel forced IAMGOLD to decrease its 2019 gold production guidance to between 765,000 ounces and 810,000 ounces, compared to a previous target of 810,000 ounces to 870,000 ounces.
