Adidas products to contain 50% recycled polyester in 2020

Adidas AG said Jan. 21 that more than 50% of the polyester used in its products will come from recycled plastic waste beginning this year.

The German athletic wear producer said it plans to manufacture about 15 million to 20 million pairs of shoes with plastic waste collected from beaches and coastal regions.

Adidas made a commitment in July 2018 to only use recycled polyester in all of its products by 2024.

The company plans to launch its first fully recyclable running shoe, called Futurecraft Loop, in 2021.
