Regulators approve price changes for Portland General Electric

The Oregon Public Utility Commission has approved an overall price increase of 0.89% across Portland General Electric Co.'s different customer classes, effective Jan. 1, 2018.

Including other adjustments to electric prices currently under review by the PUC, the total price increase for Portland GE customers will be 2.3%, the utility said in a Dec. 21 news release. A residential customer using 820 kWh would see an increase of $4 on their monthly electric bill, from $97 to $101.

Portland GE said the increase in price reflects investment in its distribution system to improve resiliency against storms, earthquakes and cyberattacks, and enhance power supply flexibility for efficient integration of more renewable energy.

By customer class, the price changes are: a 4.2% increase for residential; a 1.7% increase for small business; a 0.7% increase for commercial; a 0.6% increase for large commercial; and a 3.3% decrease for industrial.
