Reckitt Benckiser moves to cut back on plastic packaging

Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC on June 5 laid out several goals aimed at removing or reducing plastic packaging used in its range of health, household and personal products.

The U.K.-based company, which makes products under brand names including Nurofen, Lysol, Veet, Scholl and Air Wick, also will invest in research to identify alternative packaging materials.

In addition, Reckitt Benckiser set a 2025 target to have its plastic packaging contain at least 25% recycled plastic. It also aims to have 100% of its plastic packaging be recyclable or reusable by that year.

The company's recent initiatives include using a smaller trigger design on spray products, which was expected to cut back on plastic use by 570 tons per year.

Reckitt Benckiser said it previously achieved a 2017 target to send zero waste to landfills from its factories.
