Chinese search giant Baidu Inc. has introduced a "Simple Search" mobile app that is free of advertising, in a bid to restrict paid promotions, South China Morning Post reported May 28.
Baidu's founder and CEO, Robin Li Yanhong, reportedly said the company will keep offering a mobile search app devoid of any sponsored results. The app especially cut back on medical advertisements after a university student died trying a contentious cancer treatment method widely advertised in the search results.
"Simple Search" was first launched in July 2017 and supported image scanning and voice-activated search.
