Nuclear update: Total availability tops 94% as 4 reactors increase output

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability nudged higher early May 25 to 94.11%, up from 93.02% on May 24 and also above the 86.38% reported on the same day a year ago.

Providing a lift to total output was increased generation at four reactors around the country. Exelon Corp.'s Clinton Power Station in Illinois was operating at 96% early May 25, up from 85% on May 24. DTE Energy Co.'s Fermi 2 in Michigan was at 73% early May 25, rising from 63% on May 24. NextEra Energy Inc.'s Point Beach 1 in Wisconsin returned to full power early May 25, climbing from 71% on May 24.

In addition, Energy Northwest's Columbia Generating Station in Washington saw production increase from 10% May 24 to 65% early May 25.

As of early May 25, a total of four nuclear units remain shut.
