Japan Tobacco Inc.'s domestic cigarette sales declined 21.3% year over year in September, according to an Oct. 18 release.
Sales of the tobacco company in Japan fell to ¥44.2 billion during the month from ¥56.2 billion in the same period last year.
The cigarette-maker also posted a 3.4% year-to-date drop in sales in the first nine months of 2019.
In September, Japan Tobacco sold 6.8 billion cigarettes, down 27.3% from 9.4 billion sold in the year-ago period.
The company said it had a 60.4% domestic market share in September and a 60.7% market share for the nine-month period ended September.
In August, Japan Tobacco's domestic cigarette sales slid 3.4% year over year.
