Reelgood's universal streaming guide to launch in UK on LG TVs

Reelgood's universal streaming guide is launching in the U.K. in the first quarter of 2020 as part of an exclusive partnership with LG Electronics Inc., S&P Global Market Intelligence has learned.

The deal will see the South Korean electronics manufacturer feature the Reelgood app on the home page of its smart TVs. The app allows users to select from aggregated content, rather than having to access shows and movies via individual streaming services.

The LG partnership marks the first stage of a Europe-wide expansion for U.S.-based Reelgood, which has more than 10 million users. After the U.K. launch, Reelgood will debut in a new European country every month. It is also eyeing expanding into Latin America in 2020. There are no near-term plans to launch dedicated web or mobile versions of the Reelgood app, similar to its U.S. dashboard, in the U.K.

The app shares viewership data with partners including Roku Inc., Microsoft Corp., News Corp.'s New York Post Publishing Inc. and hedge funds. The company says this information is valuable as Netflix Inc. and Inc.'s Prime Video do not share much themselves.

Reelgood's catalog comprises a total of 336 streaming services and includes free offerings like Tubi Inc., Crackle and those from TV networks, pay TV providers' video-on-demand services and subscription services like Netflix, Hulu LLC, The Walt Disney Co.'s Disney+ and Apple Inc.'s Apple TV+.

Reelgood announced in January that it was partnering with five makers of smart TVs in the U.S., including LG, to deliver its service to roughly half of all smart TV households in the country. It did not disclose its other partners.

In September, the company launched a data measurement unit dubbed Reelgood Insights and announced that Mark Green, former Nielsen senior vice president of global measurement, would be head of the division.

The U.K. and Europe expansion follows an approximately $6.8 million series A series funding round in December led by Runa Capital. Reelgood has raised more than $11 million to date, with international expansion high on its list of strategic priorities.
