Adidas AG is facing a trademark infringement lawsuit in New York after a local fashion brand accused the German sportswear giant of copying its designs for an NBA team's fan t-shirt merchandise.
In a 26-page complaint filed Aug. 12 by Milkcrate Athletics at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the brand said Adidas is selling clothing and apparel that bear "confusingly similar imitations" of its trademarks.
The design in question is the Brooklyn Nets Milkcrate Tee that features a milk crate and is advertised and sold under the name "Milkcrate."
Milkcrate is seeking injunctive relief and to recover profit that Adidas generated from the sale of the merchandise.
Adidas did not immediately respond to S&P Global Market Intelligence's request for comment.
