Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s new range of smart TV models will offer Apple Inc.'s iTunes Movies and TV Shows and Apple AirPlay 2 support.
As of spring, the iTunes Movies and TV Shows app will be available on Samsung's 2019 smart TV models in more than 100 countries, while AirPlay 2 support will be available in 190 countries, Samsung said. Support for the services will also be added to Samsung's 2018 smart TV models via a firmware update.
The iTunes app will allow Samsung smart TV owners to access their existing iTunes library and browse the iTunes Store to buy or rent movies and TV episodes. Samsung's smart TV services, such as Universal Guide, the New Bixby and Search will be compatible with the app as well.
Meanwhile, AirPlay 2 support will allow content such as videos, photos and music to be streamed from Apple devices directly to the Samsung TVs.
Streaming services registered significant growth in 2018 in the U.S. alone, with revenues projected at $17.5 billion by 2022.
