Amazon opens fulfillment site in Orlando, Fla.

Seattle-based e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc. on Sept. 2 opened a new fulfillment center in Orlando, Fla., that spans 2.4 million square feet and will house 1,500 jobs.

Amazon has been hiring full-time and part-time warehouse associates for the new facility, as well as Prime Now shoppers in the city, where it offers one and two-hour delivery service for Prime members, local newspaper Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Sept. 4.

Amazon spent more than a year building the site on 12340 Boggy Creek Road, which adds to the online retailer's growing footprint in Florida that includes warehouses in Lakeland, Ruskin, Jacksonville and Miami.

The newspaper added that Amazon did not seek any local tax incentives for the project.
