El Paso Electric issues request for proposals for smart grid options

El Paso Electric Co. issued a request for proposals seeking advanced metering infrastructure and meter data management system solutions to improve grid reliability and customer service.

The infrastructure advancements will lay the foundation for the utility's smart grid and smart city technologies, according to an Oct. 1 news release. The improvements will also provide customers with additional tools and programs to manage and monitor their electric consumption and improve outage restorations and distribution system reliability.

The notification of intent to bid is due Nov. 1. The company will select successful bids by April 9, 2020.
