Merit Medical Systems lead independent director resigns

Merit Medical Systems Inc. elected Thomas Gunderson a director and appointed him to serve as a member of the audit committee.

Gunderson's appointment fills the vacancy from the resignation of Richard Edelman, who stepped down in accordance with company governance guidelines for the retirement of directors. Edelman had served as lead independent director since 2014.

Gunderson will serve out the remainder of Edelman's term, which ends 2019. Gunderson's previous roles include managing director and senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray.

The company's board also elected Nolan Karras to serve as lead independent director.
