Glencore, Anglo's Collahuasi seeks mine life extension with US$3.2B investment

The Glencore PLC and Anglo American PLC-owned Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi SCM is seeking an environmental permit to extend the life of the Collahuasi copper mine in Chile, Reuters reported Dec. 27.

The project would require an estimated US$3.2 billion investment. Collahuasi plans to upgrade operations in order to improve efficiency and output.

Collahuasi, one of the world's largest copper mines, is forecast to produce 545,000 tonnes of the metal in 2018.

Glencore and Anglo American each own a 44% interest in the mine.
