Northwest Territories Power gets Canadian funding for 3 power plants

The government of Canada and Northwest Territories Power Corp. are investing more than C$50.4 million to upgrade three power generation facilities.

Joint federal and territorial funding will support the modernization of the Taltson hydroelectric power plant, the installation of new generators at the Fort Simpson liquefied natural gas power facility, and the installation of a new diesel power plant in the community of Lutsel K'e.

Of the total amount, the Canadian government will invest over C$37.8 million through the Green Infrastructure Stream and the Arctic Energy Fund. Northwest Territories Power will contribute more than C$12.6 million for the projects.

Project funding is conditional and will only be provided once the government is satisfied that the obligation to consult with Indigenous groups is met, according to an Aug. 30 news release.
