Report: Jefferies hires CLSA bankers for planned Australia equities business

New York-based Jefferies LLC is said to have hired nearly 30 bankers from Hong Kong-based CLSA in Australia as part of its plan to set up an equities business in the country, The Australian Financial Review reported June 7, citing sources.

Andrew Norman, head of equities for CLSA in Australia, is believed to be among the bankers who resigned from the company. Norman is expected to take up a similar position at Jefferies. The departing employees also include sector lead analysts.

Jefferies is likely to launch its equities business in Australia within months, sources told the publication.

CLSA is the international platform of China's CITIC Securities Co. Ltd.
