Hyundai's Chinese JV with BAIC recalls over 400,000 vehicles

Beijing Hyundai Motors Co. Ltd., Hyundai Motor Co.'s joint venture with Chinese state-owned Beijing Automotive Group Co. Ltd., is recalling a total of 400,377 vehicles sold in China over concerns of a potential engine damage, Xinhua News Agency reported Aug. 11, citing China's quality regulator.

China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China issued a recall notice for Tucson models manufactured between Aug. 17, 2015, and Sept. 18, 2018, the report said.

The affected vehicles' engines are at risk of being damaged when cars are continuously driven short distances in a low-temperature environment, according to the report.

The recall will start Aug. 17, and Beijing Hyundai will upgrade the engine control unit programs of the vehicles and replace their thermostat valve, free of charge.
