Top banking moves: Sound Community Bank appoints CFO, COO

June 6

Daphne Kelley will become CFO of Seattle-based Sound Financial Bancorp Inc. and unit Sound Community Bank by July 2.

Kelley previously was senior vice president and controller of HomeStreet Bank.

Massachusetts-based Needham Bank named Kevin Henkin senior vice president of commercial credit and chief credit officer.

Henkin previously was CEO of Cobblestone Management LLC, a company that provides risk and credit consultancy services to U.S. financial institutions.

Edwin Hortman Jr. is stepping down as president and CEO of Ameris Bancorp. He will remain executive chairman of the Moultrie, Ga.-based company and unit Ameris Bank.

Effective July 5, Dennis Zember Jr., currently executive vice president and COO of the company as well as CEO of the bank, will take on Hortman's vacated roles.

Celie Niehaus was appointed chief compliance officer and a member of the management committee of Houston-based BBVA Compass Bancshares Inc.

Niehaus was previously with Capital One Financial Corp., where she was chief compliance officer and chief privacy officer.

Portsmouth, Va.-based TowneBank promoted Kevin Fly to senior executive vice president and chief accounting officer. Fly was previously executive vice president of financial reporting, tax and policy.

David Patterson, who was executive vice president and chief accounting officer, was appointed corporate controller.

June 5

Chris Walsh joined Mission Viejo, Calif.-based Partners Bank of California as president.

Walsh previously worked for Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Blue Gate Bank.

New York-based Metropolitan Bank Holding Corp. appointed Anthony Fabiano CFO.

Fabiano previously was president and COO of Hudson City Bancorp Inc.

Kevin Barth was named chairman and CEO of Kansas City, Mo.-based Commerce Bank.

Barth will remain as executive vice president of parent company Commerce Bancshares Inc.'s commercial line of business.

Commerce Bank also appointed Rob Bratcher president.

The appointments take effect Aug. 1.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Jonathan Kemper is set to retire July 31. He will remain on Commerce Bancshares' board and Commerce Bank's advisory board.

Rayville, La.-based Richland State Bancorp Inc. President and CEO Jerome Vascocu will join the boards of Baton Rouge, La.-based Business First Bancshares Inc. and unit Business First Bank once their deal closes.

June 1

Tom Jacobson is stepping down as CEO of Platinum Bank, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reported. He will become a member of the board.

David Faust, currently the president of the Oakdale, Minn.-based bank, will take on the vacated CEO role.

May 31

Seattle-based Sound Community Bank named Executive Vice President Heidi Sexton COO.

Magnolia, Ark.-based Peoples Bank named Jamie Waller president, according to the Magnolia Reporter.

Waller also serves as chief lending officer and director of the Golden Oaks Bancshares Inc. unit.

Martin Schmitz was named chairman of the board of Denver-based Citywide Banks.

He will also join the board of Dubuque, Iowa-based Heartland Financial USA Inc.

Schmitz served as chairman of Citywide Banks before it was acquired by Heartland Financial.

Whitinsville, Mass.-based UniBank for Savings, a unit of UFS Bancorp, appointed Douglas Moisan senior vice president and CFO, the Worcester (Mass.) Business Journal reported.

Moisan previously was senior vice president for finance at Commerce Bank & Trust Co.

Customers Bank named William Pizzichil executive vice president and chief compliance officer.

Pizzichil joined the Phoenixville, Pa.-based bank in 2011 as compliance officer and assistant vice president.
