Sacramento Municipal Utility Districtfiled a request with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to approve the purchase of unit 3 of the Solano wind farm in Solano County, Calif.
Sacramento Municipal Utility District, or SMUD, has a 43.91% stake in the 228-MW wind project, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data. Unit 3 is owned 99.99% by a Citigroup Inc. affiliate and 0.01% by Forsyth Street Renewables I LLC, according to a March 13 application with FERC. The project is connected to the California ISO grid through the Russell substation, which is owned by SMUD.
Upon completion of the deal, SMUD will own a 100% interest in unit 3. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in the filing.
Unit 3, subject to FERC approval, is the largest of the project, consisting of 55 wind turbines with a capacity of 128 MW. It achieved commercial operation in April 2012, according to the filing.
The commission has been asked to approve the transaction by April 19. (FERC docket EC18-68)
