International Business Machines Corp. said it plans to add 1,800 jobs in France over the next two years as part of the IT consulting company's investment strategy for the country, which also includes training programs for "new collar" skills.
IBM will hire business consultants, IT architects, developers and technical experts, focusing on areas including artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing and the internet of things. The additional jobs also include 400 AI-related roles IBM announced in March at the French AI for Humanity summit.
The company is also teaming up with the French government to launch IBM's Pathways to Technology Early College High School, or P-TECH, education model in France for new collar skills, or new roles in areas such as cybersecurity, data science, AI and cognitive business.
President and CEO Ginni Rometty announced the company's investment plan at the Tech for Good Summit hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
